About

LGBTQIA+ individuals face discrimination and stigma in healthcare settings, leading to a number of preventable healthcare disparities.

In an attempt to disseminate resources to close the gap between evidence and practice, promote cultural competency, and reduce healthcare disparities, nursing investigators have created an easily accessible resource toolbox based off common themes presented in key stakeholder focus groups: appropriate terminology, LGBTQIA+ health disparities, and respectful communication regarding SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression).

The toolbox contains links to the LGBTQIA+ Healthcare Provider Training Module©, journal articles, graphics, handbooks, presentations, webinars, testimonial videos, resources from local, regional, and national organizations, and more.

The LGBTQIA+ community is far from a homogenous group and the resource toolbox's contents are organized with this in mind. There are 17 different folders outlined in the table of contents that are focused on intersectionality within the LGBTQIA+ patient population (age, race, ability, SES, etc.)
